Funny Husband

I lost my voice last week - courtesy of a horrible case of laryngitis. Not only was it no fun to try to talk to friends at a wedding over a blaring band with my loudest voice being a weak whisper, but now I have the post-laryngitis cough. Frustrating. This is graphic - but I asked Kyle if he would go to the store and get a Turkey baster to suck the voice-muting culprit out of my throat (I tried really hard not to use the work "snot" in that sentence - can you tell)... and the worst part is he grabbed his keys to go to HEB! I am not sure what to think about this - is it just that he loves me so much he would do anything I asked - or is it that he just didn't know better?

What has your husband done, not done, known or not known that you thought was both sweet... and kind of clueless all at once?

San Antonio here we come!

I rarely blog during the week, but due to the fact that I have yet again totally lost my voice (this happens every January I'm pretty sure - and sometimes again in the fall) and Kyle is having to mute the TV everytime I try to say something, I decided to talk to the blogging world instead of continuing to interrupt Conan's rants about NBC.

I am excited because we are going to San Antonio this weekend! A college buddy of Kyle's is getting married, and we are staying at this gorgeous new resort (this is opening weekend!) outside the city. I am also spending a large part of Saturday at the spa... which is never frowned upon. I'll let you know how opening weekend at the New San Antonio Marriot Resort is when we get back!

Last week was insanely busy - and I should elaborate on that at some point... I had not only my first court appearance at work, but my first FOUR appearances. It was good. :)

Weddings and Mary Kay update!

I had a great weekend! Kyle's family was in town and I loved seeing everyong, meeting some new faces and celebrating Greg and Lindsey's wedding! It was absolutely beautiful! Lindsey has impeccable taste and it was a gorgeous night!

I also worked on my Mary Kay business a little bit - I set up a separate bank account, handed out some samples and business cards, met a woman while out shopping who asked if I would do a facial for her (of course I will!) and showed off my super-cute Mary Kay store (or closet if you like, but I like to call it a store!) to Kyle's mom. I am hoping to set a few more appointments and get things rolling a little more but I am happy to announce I have earned enough to buy my camera (see my previous post!) Time to start working on earning those chairs!

And - today I also met with a bride and groom whose wedding I may coordinate in the summer. They were super cute, organized and have a lot of exciting choices ahead. I'll keep you posted!

Also - because several people have asked - soon I will post pictures of our house... I promise.

I'm a Mary Kay Lady

Yep - I'm a lipstick-selling, eye-shadow wearing, hand-softening, skin-care fanatic! And I LOVE it! It sounds crazy, but I started selling Mary Kay just to have some fun - my sister started selling and I went to a few meetings with her, and the women I met were just so much fun I had to sell too! (I didn't think they would let me keep coming to their meetings as a guest forever, although now I know they are so nice they probably would have!).

I sold Mary Kay in college, but I didn't have any inventory and that made it harder than it had to be. This time I decided to get a small store and have most products on hand without having to place an order, and that REALLY helps manage the time you have to put in, not to mention you can deliver products immediately - which is great for your customers. You also get to have your website be searchable by customers in your area if you have inventory and I have already gotten an order or two from people I've never met right through my website! It's been fun, and I have a project in the works that may be really fun and great for my sales... I'll let you know!

This week our director asked us to find a picture of something we want to get with our Mary Kay money.
I broke my camera at Kyley's (my niece) birthday party last year. It's time for a new one. The only problem with this goal is I have almost (in less than a month!) made enough to be able to buy this with my Mary Kay money, so I am going to big something BIGGER and really try to get it by the end of this quarter.....[drum roll].....

The upholstery isn't what I would choose, but I love the shape of this chair, and they have over 700 upholstery options, so I can probably find the perfect one for our living room among that many choices. The chair is $550... and the thing is, I want TWO matching ones, so that makes my Mary Kay goal for this quarter $1100 profit plus the little bit of extra to finish out my camera goal. :)

Resolutions

I am really kind of over the New Year's Resolution thing - its over-talked and under-performed in my opinion. However, this year, I'm going to do something entirely new and groundbreaking for me. Make my own decisions. That sounds selfish and a bit ridiculous, but deep down, I am a chronic people pleaser. It's something I've started to realize is a bit of an illness... it's crippling, and I'm done with it.

Next month I turn 27. It's time to make my own decisions and stop worrying about who will be mad, who will be disappointed, who will think I'm silly, naiive, or just a dreamer.

Happy 2010... may it be the best year for you and your family holding many memories and happy moments. What are your resolutions?

Grocery Game Round 3

Today's Stats - 1.5 hours, 2 stores, saved... over $70!

Kroger:

Total before savings: $116.87
Coupon Savings: $ 2.25
Kroger Savings: $ 62.62
Total after Savings: $ 52.50

Yes - that's right - I saved more than I actually spent at Kroger - I'm starting to feel like this is a success! Oh - and I got 8 new york strip steaks which normally by themselves would cost over $60! The steaks were marked down from $9.99 /lb to $3.77 / lb. Wow - I would normally NEVER buy those. I also got buy one get one free on both lunch meat and sandwich bread. Another awesome Kroger deal this week (especially if you have company coming next weekend!) - If you buy blue ribbon bacon, you get a dozen eggs, a del monte fruit cup (8oz), fully cooked sausage patties, and 6 pack English muffins for FREE. I really wish I had that deal before we had Kyle's parents here this weekend - we wouldn't have had to go out for breakfast this morning!

HEB:

Total before coupons: $53.60
Coupon Savings: $ 7.35
Total after coupons: $46.25

So - for basic items and produce, I am still going to HEB - they have some good deals if you need the things on special. For example - I got the following items all FREE because I bought another item on the special: Buy oatmeal, get waffle mix free; buy bleach, get bleach pen free; buy cookie mix, get flour free. They also had coupons on our coffee creamer and cream cheese. Also - I am drinking SlimFast protein shakes for breakfast lately (no - I'm not trying to lose weight, but its the only thing that keeps me full! and they're fast!) - and the powder is just flat cheaper at HEB. At Kroger it is $8.59 while at HEB it is $7.97. Every little bit helps!

Overall - Kroger is still winning over HEB on the overall prices, deals and steals - and nobody is more shocked by that than me! With that said, my general observation that HEB produce is better and cheaper stands. Also - if i don't have a coupon on certain staple items that we can't wait for the next sale/coupon combo for - HEB tends to be a little cheaper on the whole. For overall deals - Kroger wins though! One caveat to my thoughts on HEB not being as strong for savings - is our HEB is NOT an HEB Pantry. It is an HEB Food & Drug/ Super HEB - so not all of the Grocery Game deals / mark downs make it to our HEB. Perhaps if your HEB gets the full mark downs... HEB would be better... I can't really say.

The Grocery Game - Grocery Shopping v. Kristy, Round2

Okay folks - round 2 of the grocery game.... here it is!

Totals:

Kroger
Total before savings: $135.81
Manufacturer's Coupon Savings: $5.50
Kroger Card Savings: $39.69
Total after savings and coupons: $90.72 (!!)

That feels like success!

Best deals at Kroger this week:
1. Pork Chops - regularly $2.99 / lb on sale for ($ 0.99 / lb) - I got 10 chops for $5.88.
2. Yoplais - Yo-Plus 4 pack yogurt - regular $2.59, on sale for $1.99, $0.99 after $1 coupon - $0.49 after Kroger (10 for 10 savings!) (81% of the regular price!)
3. Next week i get $25 in FREE (yes - FREE!) groceries from Kroger because I transferred a prescription while I was at the store today! You have to have a coupon that came out on 11/4, but I didn't have it and just asked for it at the customer service desk. Then walk over the pharmacy and they will transfer your prescription for you. When you pick it up - you get $25 in free groceries! It took about 2 minutes and that is totally worth it!

I still like HEB for produce - so I went there for that and some of their really good deals.

Best deals at HEB this week:
1. T-bone steak: regularly $8.18 / lb. on sale for $3.77 / lb. (54% off!)
2. Buy HEB 16 oz. sandwich meat and get HEB bread FREE!

So - this week - with just the free $25 at Kroger from transferring the presciption - the Grocery Game paid for iteslf for aboout TEN weeks of the membership, and that doesn't take into account the $17 I saved on the pork chops or the free bread. Here's the thing - I'm still not sure I couldn't do it without her - I just think it would take a lot longer. I knew the pork chops were on sale before I went to the store - sure when you get there - its clearly labeled, but I probably would've stuck to our regular chicken or just missed it altogether. And - like I said last week - it allows you to plan the meals around the pork chops (for example) before you go. This week it also took me significantly less time to choose my items, print my lists, and get out the door.

I may be a new Grocery Game convert.
